Committee Descriptions

Curriculum Committee: Jan Bernath and Charlotte Wyche, Co-Chairs
Determines course line-up, organizes course schedule, communicates with instructors, schedules facilities, evaluates courses/teachers

Registration Committee: Mary Lou Frendt, Chair
Registers participants, recruits and directs class assistants, maintains demographic records. Develops registration policy and procedures.

Membership Committee: Judy Eassa, Chair
Recruits new members and plans membership meetings. Distributes newsletter and catalogue to ALI members, supervises all mailings about ALI activities, obtains mailing lists.

Web Committee: Dorothy Lieffers, Chair
Maintains website.  Updates web site content based on input from the Board and other chairs.  Maintains document and photo repositories.

Audiovisual Committee: Jack Merkel and Dale Greiner, Co-Chairs
Arranges technical support for courses.  Takes photographs and uploads them to the photo repository.  Train A-V Assistant

Public Relations Committee: Prepares press releases and other advertising, oversees design of brochure, organizes bulk mailings, designs flyers.

Finance Committee: Jim Utsler, Chair
Prepares yearly budget proposals, maintains financial records, reconciles budget   Report and seek approval for monthly expenses.

Fundraising Committee: Mary Ann Merkel, Chair
Seeks donations and grants on an as-needed basis, sends thank-you letters.

Kick-Off Committee: Daphne Hodder, Chair
Plans program and arranges for food and physical set up for biannual kick-offs.

Who We Are

Based in Chelsea, Michigan, the Adult Learners Institute (ALI) provides a diverse selection of quality community-based learning experiences and camaraderie for adults in western Washtenaw County. ALI is a Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI) affiliated with the Elderhostel Institute Network (EIN), a group of 320 similar organizations. We conduct our programs in cooperation with Washtenaw Community College.
